“And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.”
The relentless, vice-like grip of darkness pressed in from the sides, from the rear. The roar of the water in the depths below and the screaming of the wind as it sliced its way between the rocks, drawing me as would a magnet to the edge of the gaping precipice yawning at my heels, were magnified by its invisible limbs. Towards chaos, fear, towards death.
The light-beam from the head torch cut a path through the maze of darkness on the narrow ledge, guiding me home to friends, to family, warmth, laughter, to love. To the cry of a baby; to life. To God.
The true light that gives light to every man, woman and child was coming into the world. He is in the world.
O God with us!
